NYC/Azerbaijani Artist’s Work to Be Shown  at Gallery Sitka in Shirley, Mass.

SHIRLEY, Mass. — Gallery Sitka in Shirley is pleased to show the work of Yana Filkovsky-Saito, a multimedia artist in a solo show, on Sunday, July 31 from 2 – 5 p.m.

A native of Baku, Azerbaijan (in the former Soviet union), Yana emigrated to the U.S. at the age of twelve. A natural artist who began drawing as a small child, she discovered her gift for painting and sculpture in high school, realizing that art was her true passion and decided to dedicate her life in its pursuit, starting up her advanced studies at Hampshire College in Massachusetts, at Purchase College in the State University of New York, and at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. She spent most of her life in the New York City area where she acquired a richly diverse cultural experience and range of perspectives.

Yana Filkovsky-Saito’s work for this show is her most passionate continued series of work — vertipology. These digital photomontage images are composed of dozens of photographs meshed together to depict a subjective experience of various whereabouts. She photographed for the vertipology series at locations in New York, Massachusetts, Maine, Colorado, Mexico, Caribbean Island of Bonaire, and others. Her other recent project, micro pen drawings, will be shown as well.

This solo reception of the artist’s work will take place on Sunday, July 31, 2 – 5 p.m. at the original space of Gallery Sitka, 2 Shaker Road, D101, in Shirley, Mass. The show will remain at Gallery Sitka Shirley for the entire month of August. For more information on the artwork of Yana Filkovsky-Saito, go to gallerysitka.com or call 978.425.6290.
