SUMMARY:Ocean Rising II
DESCRIPTION:GALLERY SITKA’S ANNUAL EARTH DAY SHOW!\nThe scene of the world has not changed much from 2023/2024. This includes the weather and the issues with the waters on the planet. We love our planet so much and love the water!\nTherefore\, again\, this year\, we want to focus again on water. The flooding continues and the inches of water rise. Being next to the bay in Newport\, watching the old homes get taller\, as they are lifted\, we can see the reality of water rising.\nThus\, this year’s art focus will be the sea level rise\, flooding\, and the like!\nCome by to see the work and enjoy some refreshments!\nImage shown by our Represented Artist\, Dawn Haley Morton. \nView the show on Artsy\nRead the PR\nThe Newport Times\nNewport This Week

SUMMARY:Off Season – Mary Ann Rossoni
DESCRIPTION:“Seaside Morning Glory”\, Mary Ann Rossoni\, watercolor on paper\, 16”x20”\nGallery Sitka’s latest exhibition\, “Off Season” by Mary Ann Rossoni opens with a reception on Sunday\, December 1\, 2-4pm at Gallery Sitka in Newport\, on the corner of Spring and Franklin Streets. On the following Sunday\, December 8\, the exhibit will also be one of the stops on the Newport Art Trolley & Gallery Stroll. The reception and the trolley are free and open to the public. The show will be up through the end of December. \nProvidence resident\, Ms. Rossoni offers\, “Whether urban or pastoral landscapes\, I strive for compelling compositions. My paintings are accessible\, inviting viewers to create their own stories. Fellow painters have said my work is Hopper-esque; I believe their attributions refer to the feelings invoked when viewing his work – the stand-alone house\, the empty building. What stories do they tell? What secrets do they hold? Through my studies at Rhode Island School of Design and my 30 years as a graphic designer and musician\, my visual and musical influences lean toward the illustrative.” \nGallery Sitka owner\, Tamar Russell Brown shares\, “Mary Ann Rossoni is an incredibly fun person and that shows in her work. Knowing her for 20 years has been a joy. Since we opened a gallery in Newport\, it has been a pleasure to reconnect with her. This is her second annual show at Gallery Sitka and we are excited to close the year with her work. Come by for a glass of wine\, snacks and meet the artist!” \nView the show on Artsy \nRead the PR

SUMMARY:Nature’s Patterns – Rebekah Robinson & Ylenia Mino
DESCRIPTION:Gallery Sitka announces “Nature’s Patterns” exhibit featuring two artists\, Ylenia Mino\, an Italian artist who resides in Long Beach\, California and Wailuku\, Hawaii\, and Rebekah Robinson who lives in Colorado. The exhibit reception is open and free to the public Thursday\, July 18\, 5:30-7:30pm; both artists will be in attendance. Gallery Sitka/Newport is located on the corner of Spring and Franklin Streets; the show will be displayed through August 2. \n“Blooming Elegance: A Symphony of Colors” by Ylenia Mino\nBorn and raised in the small town of Ivrea\, nestled at the foot of the Italian Alps\, Ylenia Mino studied with an extraordinary Egyptian painter who had trained under a French master. Ylenia pursued classical studies\, including ancient Greek\, Latin\, philosophy\, and art history\, as well as performance arts. \nIn March 2011\, Ylenia debuted as a solo artist at the International Artexpo in New York and later exhibited her work in San Francisco\, London\, Innsbruck (Austria)\, and across Italy. Living in California and Hawaii\, she founded Paint for a Purpose\, empowering individuals and teams through custom creative events\, as well as Furry Friend Portraits. \nMino shares\, “Art is my way of capturing and sharing the profound moments that define our lives. I endeavor to convey the deep emotions and connections that make each moment unique. Growing up at the foot of the Italian Alps\, I was inspired by the natural beauty and cultural richness around me. This inspiration drives me to create art that resonates with personal and universal stories\, imbued with the sophistication of European Italian artistry.” \n“Pontassive Italy” by Rebekah Robinson\nColorado-based artist Rebekah Robinson has studied painting\, printmaking\, photography and graphic design. The landscape has been an overarching theme in her work\, and patterns offer a continued focus. Robinson offers\, “While the natural patterns of leaves floating on a still pond draw my attention\, I am equally fascinated by the human-made patterns of field plantings\, mowings and gardens. At times\, I have focused on the intimate details—the petals of a flower\, the detritus in a flowing stream\, the reflections of water.” \nRobinison’s paintings in this show are representative of a broader view of nature and the inherent larger scope of her natural surroundings living in Colorado and traveling in the American Southwest and Europe.” \nGallery Sitka owner\, Tamar Russell Brown states\, “Ylenia Mino is one of Gallery Sitka’s earliest artists; we are thrilled to host her in our Newport space. Rebekah Robinson is a gallery friend via some of our newest artists. Both artists will be with us on July 18th and we welcome them to Newport!” \nView the show on Artsy\nRead the PR

SUMMARY:Veronique Sapin — Symptoms
DESCRIPTION:“Symptoms 2” by Veronique Sapin\nGallery Sitka announces the exhibition “Symptoms” by French visual artist Veronique Sapin\, with an opening reception on Friday\, April 26 from 4:30-6:30pm. Sapin\, whose studio is in Cugnaux\, France\, will be in attendance at the Shirley gallery. The show will be displayed through May 3. Also planned is an Artist Talk\, “Sisterhood in Art\, as a Consequence\, as a Strategy” at the Fitchburg Art Museum Thursday\, May 2\, from 12:30-1:30pm. Both the artist reception and the artist talk are free and open to the public. \nThe full scope of Véronique Sapin’s artwork is of the visual arts nature\, including videos\, installations\, photos\, ink\, and art books. Her artwork has been a part of more than 240 showings in forty countries. She is also curator\, co-founder and coordinator of the international women artists collective FemLink-Art which involves 140+ artists from 60+ countries. She has initiated important partnerships with institutions such as Unesco for the video training of African women artists. \nFor this exhibition at Gallery Sitka\, Sapin focuses on an ink painting art method she gleaned while living in Singapore where she took classes from artist Lim Choon Jin. \nMs. Sapin offers\, “Working with ink means anticipating what the ink will want to do\, expecting it not to do so\, and measuring our degree of intervention on its freedom. This implies a constant game of partnership and adversity between the artist and the medium.” \nGallery Sitka owner\, Tamar Russell Brown states\, “We have been expanding the gallery’s breadth of artists and offerings to include more international art. Veronique is our first French female artist to have as part of our Gallery Sitka family; we invite the community to join us in welcoming her!” \nAdditional information can be found at Gallery Sitka – Sapin. \nView the show on Artsy\nRead the PR

DESCRIPTION:“Green Mansions” by Barbara Groh Wahlstrom\nBarbara Groh Wahlstrom is a visual artist who has immersed herself in the creative process for over four decades creating highly personal abstract works of art. Many travels between continents inform her visual language as her sense of place\, space and time are influenced by home and landscape. \nMs. Groh offers\, “One Moment In Time is inspired by India\, Costa Rica and the Connecticut River by their proximity to water. It is a synthesis of location\, perception\, physicality\, freedom and meditation.” \nMs. Groh adds\, “Regarding my technique\, I use materials that are best suited to communicate my response to a particular observation\, experience\, or form. SUMMARY:The Fragile Beautiful Earth – Earth Day 2023
DESCRIPTION:“Bound Remnants in Brick” by Barbara Groh Wahlstrom\nNewport\, R.I.\, April 7\, 2023 – Gallery Sitka’s latest exhibition\, “The Fragile Beautiful Earth” opens with a reception on Earth Day\, Saturday\, April 22\, 2-4 pm.   \nMany of the 26 participating artists will be in attendance for the gallery reception. The juried exhibition will be shown through May 25 (with gallery hours Thurs.-Sun.). \nCurator\, Beth Barry\, offers\, “We have all been called upon to repurpose\, reduce\, reuse\, recycle\, restore\, and reinvent our planet we depend on. As artists\, we inherently do this – make and remake something uniquely our own. For this exhibit\, we asked artists to incorporate and channel their emotions about our fragile planet into creations of the earth’s beauty. Artists’ interpretations range from literal\, metaphorical\, to spiritual.” \nThe materials\, as well\, range from conventional to unconventional; from oil paint to detritus; from literal earth to discarded plastic bags and bottles. Used and deflated helium balloons make for a large jellyfish hanging from the wall. Abstract landscapes\, encaustics\, and photography round out the show’s works. \nGallery Sitka owner\, Tamar Russell Brown offers\, “We feel strongly about our responsibility for the health of our planet. Our way of paying attention\, and drawing attention\, is through our actions – including artwork.” \n“With Beth being a NY-based artist\, and I\, a New England-based gallery owner\, we were able to draw upon a wide\, diverse and talented pool of artists for this show.
