Description: “For over 20 years, I participated in reptile surveys in Texas and Arizona, for the researching the status of native lizards known as horned lizards. I also kept them in captivity and returned many to native habitats for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department who had received them from the public (after learning about the fine for collecting these lizards). The lizards have a threatened status. The Texas horned lizard (Phrynosoma cornutum) is one of 17 North American and Mexican species of horned lizards and it was my favorite growing up in Texas. I painted Cornutum as a visual tribute to this species, portrayed in paint as a Native American dancer in west Texas.”
