Barbara Groh Wahlstrom is a visual artist who has immersed herself in the creative process for over four

decades creating highly personal abstract works of art. Many travels between continents inform her visual language as her sense of place, space and time are influenced by home and landscape.

Ms. Groh offers, “One Moment In Time is inspired by India, Costa Rica and the Connecticut River by their proximity to water. It is a synthesis of location, perception, physicality, freedom and meditation.”

Ms. Groh adds, “Regarding my technique, I use materials that are best suited to communicate my response to a particular observation, experience, or form. One Moment In Time showcases various techniques: acrylic and a natural herbal paste, oil and graphite, ink and watercolor, and cold wax and oil. My art may reflect a quiet practice, a calligraphic meditation, or an energetic expression of freedom.”

Her work has been exhibited in galleries and museums and has appeared in numerous publications and collections. Groh, who holds an MFA from Vermont College of Norwich University, has shared her talents and life experiences through teaching on numerous art faculties, primarily Drawing and Painting. She has moved her primary residence and studio from the countryside in Sweden to her studio in Brooklyn, NY.

Gallery Sitka owner, Tamar Russell Brown notes,”Gallery Sitka is thrilled to work with world-traveler, Barbara Groh Wahlstrom. Barbara was part of a Gallery Sitka Earth Day Show two years ago. Her textural works are earthy and deep, meaningful in a way that really touches on the heart of locations and nature. She will have works in this show that represent international locations, but also our home beaches, such as those on Block Island. This is a really good show to see if you are interested in what the element of texture via mixed media can do.”

SERENITY

New Exhibit by Kate Shaffer at Gallery Sitka/Shirley

Opening Reception: Fri., Sept. 8, 4:30-6:30pm, Open to all

“Falling Water,” Kate Shaffer, acrylic on canvas, 12” x 12”

Shirley, MA, August 31, 2023 – Gallery Sitka’s latest exhibition, “Serenity” by New Hampshire-based artist Kate Shaffer, opens with a reception on Friday, September 8, 4:30-6:30pm at Gallery Sitka, 2 Shaker Road in Shirley. “Serenity”runs through Sept. 30.

Ms. Shaffer shares, “I am greatly inspired by nature. My technique developed because I wanted a way to show the movement of the water and sky and to make viewers feel that if they looked away the water would flow and the painting was alive.”

She adds, “I am inspired by color and texture. I begin my process by laying down my first layers. The next layer is then in response to the first; I love the interactions that happen on the canvas. How the individual media responds to each other is always a source of surprise, like opening a present each and every time.”

Gallery Sitka owner, Tamar Russell Brown notes, “We are thrilled to host artist, Kate Shaffer, again in Shirley. Her new work is coastal in nature and really, the best possible way to close a New England summer!”

Ms. Shaffer belongs to the Women’s Caucus of the Arts in NH, the Monadnock Area Artists Association, and the Monadnock Art Association. She offers viewings by appointment at her studio. Additional information on Kate Shaffer and her work can be found at Gallery Sitka – Kate Shaffer.
