Shirley, MA, August 31, 2023 – Gallery Sitka’s latest exhibition, “Serenity” by New Hampshire-based artist Kate Shaffer, opens with a reception on Friday, September 8, 4:30-6:30pm at Gallery Sitka, 2 Shaker Road in Shirley. “Serenity”runs through Sept. 30.

Ms. Shaffer shares, “I am greatly inspired by nature. My technique developed because I wanted a way to show the movement of the water and sky and to make viewers feel that if they looked away the water would flow and the painting was alive.”

She adds, “I am inspired by color and texture. I begin my process by laying down my first layers. The next layer is then in response to the first; I love the interactions that happen on the canvas. How the individual media responds to each other is always a source of surprise, like opening a present each and every time.”

Gallery Sitka owner, Tamar Russell Brown notes, “We are thrilled to host artist, Kate Shaffer, again in Shirley. Her new work is coastal in nature and really, the best possible way to close a New England summer!”
