Artist’s Biography

Kathy G is a dynamic mixed media artist with a passion for creating inspiring, evocative and textured pieces. Currently focusing on resin art, Kathy’s journey into the creative world has been anything but linear, marked by curiosity, adaptability, and a deep love for craftsmanship.

Nearly 30 years ago, Kathy moved to East Hampton, New York, intending to stay for just a year. She took a job at a stunning accessories store, where the beauty of the sophisticated European jewelry captivated her. However, the pieces were well beyond her budget, prompting her to closely study their design and craftsmanship. This inspired her to start creating her own jewelry, and thus, Kathy G was born. With a focus on 18k gold and semi-precious stones, her work which was shown nationally was characterized by its elegance and versatility, always evolving to meet new trends and personal inspirations.

The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic marked a pivotal shift in Kathy’s artistic direction. Her daughter brought home a resin trinket box that captured Kathy’s imagination. Intrigued by the possibilities of this medium, she immersed herself in tutorials and hands-on experimentation. The allure of resin, with its versatility and depth, was irresistible, and Kathy quickly incorporated her beloved gems and minerals into her resin creations. She also began drying flowers, adding another layer of personal touch and organic beauty to her work.

Kathy’s resin art is a celebration of color, texture, and innovation. She thrives on exploring different techniques, constantly pushing the boundaries of what resin can achieve. Each piece is a unique fusion of natural elements and vibrant materials, reflecting her keen eye for detail and her commitment to craftsmanship.

For the past 19 years, Kathy has called NYC her home. Her newest studio, in Long Island City, is her sanctuary, a space where she can fully immerse herself in the creative process. Here, amidst the bustling energy of the City, she finds joy and inspiration, channeling it into her art.

Kathy G’s work is a testament to her artistic evolution, from jewelry design to mixed media resin art. Her journey is a reminder of the beauty in adaptability and the endless possibilities that come from following one’s curiosity and passion.

Her other interests include travel, theater, cooking, entertaining, and foremost family and friends.

She credits her parents who were creative risk takers for her amazing upbringing and her large family and network of friends who continually inspire her to be her best.

Artist’s Statement

My life as an artist has evolved. If you had asked me earlier in my life, I would never have called myself an artist, despite the fact that I had been designing and creating jewelry for 25 years.

When COVID hit, I retreated with my family to our house in the country where my daughter showed me a resin box she had purchased online. Eureka! MAYBE I could make resin pieces incorporating my gems and minerals. And so it began…

Now almost 5 years later, I have a studio in Long Island City and love what I do. Though I am forever a people person, when I’m creating, I am totally immersed and lost in what I am doing.

Inspired by colors in everyday things, nature, fabrics, you name it, I love experimenting, and with the elusive nature of resin there are often surprises.
