Artist’s Statement

I believe that art is a 3-way communication between the artist, his work and the viewer. A photographer uses his artistic vision to place a frame around a scene in order to say to the viewer “Look what I see here”. He will then use whatever technical tools and skills he has at his disposal to emphasize his vision of the scene. In my photography I prefer to not make any significant changes to the scene through the addition or removal of parts of the photo, but rather through emphasizing or lessening contrast, saturation and sharpness to better share my vision. Those changes may be somewhat dramatic or more subtle. In some cases the results can blur the boundary between pure photography and painting which is why I prefer the term “photo art” rather than photography. My hope is that these enhancements serve to better communicate my feelings of the scene and provide a new perspective to the viewer.
