October 1 - October 31
Artist’s Statement
Susan Edwards is an adventurer and creative artist using various media to produce works depicting biodiversity and her love of people and the planet. Susan’s proudest accomplishment is her award-winning film Marion Stoddart: The Work of 1000, an inspirational story about acclaimed environmental pioneer, Marion Stoddart, and the cleanup of the Nashua River.
Edwards recent projects include illustrating the book, Lichenpedia: A Compendium written by Kay Hurley and published by the Princeton University Press (May 2024); and creating a traveling exhibit of paintings, drawings, and illustrations featuring vegetables and the soil biome of a Massachusetts organic farm.
Gallery Sitka is delighted to present an exhibition of Edwards’ lichen-related work, An Illustrated Exploration of Lichen Lore — a series of large digital illustrations combining Edwards drawings with Hurley’s entertaining text from Lichenpedia.
Susan lives in the woods of north central Massachusetts and can be reached by email at susanadeleedwards@gmail.com, or through LinkedIn.
