Clara Dennison Explores Nature and Memory in “Seen and Imagined”
ASHBY, Mass. — Seen and Imagined, a solo exhibition by Westminster-based artist Clara Dennison, is now on view at 873 Café, presented by Gallery Sitka. The exhibition features a curated collection of original monotypes and paintings created in oils, acrylics and watercolors, offering refined, nature-inspired artwork well suited for residential interiors, hospitality spaces and commercial environments.
Dennison’s work reflects an intuitive, layered approach to exploring landscape, memory and imagination. Known for richly textured surfaces and expressive, harmonious color palettes, her paintings appeal to interior decorators and designers seeking contemporary fine art that brings warmth, organic movement and a sense of place into thoughtfully designed interiors.
A member of the WCA, Dennison creates artwork informed by deep personal connections to nature and by environments that hold lasting emotional significance. Her paintings and monotypes resonate with collectors, design professionals and art consultants interested in elevated, timeless pieces that complement modern, transitional and nature-inspired design aesthetics.
Raised on a farm in a small New England town, Dennison draws inspiration from childhood memories spent among apple orchards, forests and wetlands. Those early experiences — exploring ravines, climbing lichen-covered rocks and creating hidden sanctuaries in the woods with her six siblings — continue to shape her creative practice and visual language.
“To me the forest was like an enormous haven full of endless secrets and mysteries,” Dennison said. “It was a place where imagination thrived and where I always felt safe, surrounded by nature’s warmth.”
Dennison now lives and works in Westminster, Massachusetts, where she spends many hours gardening, landscaping and hiking in nearby woods. These daily interactions with the natural environment inform work that translates beautifully into interior spaces, offering designers original artwork that evokes calm, connection and quiet sophistication.
For Dennison, the act of seeing is rooted in intuition. Through layered textures and nuanced color, her creative process allows for surprise and discovery, encouraging viewers to engage with both the visible and the imagined — qualities that make her work especially compelling for interior design projects seeking meaning as well as visual impact.
