2023 | The Fragile Beautiful Earth

These are troubling times for our environment. The world as we know it is on the precipice. As responsible humans we are called upon to respond differently to our earth – to repurpose, reduce, reuse, recycle, restore, and reinvent our human landscape and the planet we depend on.

As artists, we do the same thing. Inherent in our creative processes is the making and remaking of something uniquely our own. Gallery Sitka and juror Beth Barry are asking artists to present their own aesthetic — to incorporate and sublimate their sadness and fear into creations of the earth’s beauty. You can be literal, metaphorical, or spiritual in your interpretation. Materials can range from conventional to unconventional, from oil paint to detritus.
