Artist’s Statement:
“I grew up listening to classical music played by my parents on our new HiFi stereo system. Beethoven’s Violin Concerto # 1, featuring the legendary Itzhak Perlman, has been and is one of my favorite listening experiences ever! In 2012 I was preparing for the exhibition “Threads” in Denver, CO. With the visualization of thread and the metaphor of connection or threading, I worked with Peter Arnesson’s Print Studio in Helsingborg, Sweden to produce a series of prints.
Concerto #1 is an etching created in a meditative state while listening to Beethoven’s music. With my headphones on, playing the 25-minute First Movement, an etching tool in each hand, my eyes closed, I began to “draw” the music. One hand interprets the high notes, especially the violin, the other hand traces the bass and other instruments. When the Movement ended, I stopped drawing.”
